'Tis the Season to Keep Warm and Save the Planet

Ex-Boyfriend adds hooded sweatshirts and organic t-shirts to their popular apparel line.

Baltimore, Nov. 7 -- While t-shirt sites proliferate around the internet, Ex-Boyfriend aims to set itself apart, not only with clever original illustrations, but also by offering customers a vast and high-quality selection of garments. Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Ex-Boyfriend has added hooded sweatshirts and organic t-shirts to their offerings.

While the hooded sweatshirts are a fantastic gift for winter weather, the organic tees are a fantastic gift for ecologically-minded friends and family year-round. Ex-Boyfriend's new line of hooded sweatshirts are distinct from competitors because they're available in both men's and women's sizes. Many graphic apparel shops simply sell unisex hoodies, which don't flatter a woman's shape or size.

Adding organic products to the line was a project that had been in the making for several months. Owner and illustrator Matt Snow wanted to offer a green alternative to traditional t-shirts but found the search for the perfect tee challenging. "Several t-shirt manufacturers do offer organic blank t-shirts but their color selections are extremely limited," says Snow. "We pride ourselves on offering the best color selection on t-shirts and wanted to choose an organic shirt that came in a variety of colors." Snow eventually settled on the organic line offered by Alternative Apparel, a premium t-shirt brand known for their super-soft, high-quality apparel. While the selection of shirt colors from Alternative Apparel is one of the better ones for organic t-shirts, Ex-Boyfriend will continue to offer their original cotton tees, which come in a larger selection of colors and at a lower price point.

Says Snow, "It would be great to eventually switch our entire line to organic offerings, but it may be several years before t-shirt manufacturers have a lower price point and larger shirt selection to choose from for their organic offerings." In the meantime, Ex-Boyfriend will offer both organic and traditional cotton tees, and continue using the most ecologically sound practices in the apparel printing industry.

Ex-Boyfriend t-shirts are printed using one of two eco-friendly techniques:

1. Flock prints, which is an eco-friendly vinyl printing process using raw materials that are ecologically inert. The vinyl is made without plasticizers or heavy metals.

2. Digital prints. This process is more environmentally friendly than traditional screen printing because the water-based ink goes directly onto the garments. No excess inks are used so the only waste that results is the occasional print head cleaning which only uses a few milliliters of ink. (The printer heads are cleaned with ink so no additional cleaning materials are used.) Screen printing requires the use of harsh chemicals like emulsion to produce screens and results in a lot of excess ink that gets washed down drains.
