Thirsty Thursday: Melting Like a Toasted Cheeser

I apologize for the lack of a WTF post yesterday; I was playing hooky and losing my body weight in sweat at the ballpark watching the Orioles lose to the Red Sox.

It was hot. Like, unnaturally hot. When I left the house last night at 11pm to pick up our pizza for dinner, it was 90°. Right now it’s 102°. Tomorrow’s projected high? 106°. DO. NOT. WANT.

Anyway…what better way to stay cool than a refreshing libation? This tasty treat is courtesy of Carrie Vibert at Poet In The Pantry. Looks and sounds delicious, but we need a snappier name for…

Blueberry Lemonade for Mamas and Papas

Ingredients:

  • ice cubes (Carrie suggests freezing blueberries in the cubes for presentation)
  • 2 oz blueberry vodka (I recommend Stolichnaya’s)
  • 3 oz lemonade (Store-bought is OK, I guess, but seriously: make your own. Juice of 1 lemon, 1/2-1 Tbsp. of preferred sweetener, and a pint of club soda should do it. Experiment with those ratios until you hit on something you like.)
  • slice of lemon

Drop some ice cubes into your glass. Pour the blueberry vodka and lemonade over them. Stir. Garnish with a slice of lemon. Get crunk!

Fuzzy Friday: Indie-Rock Kittygasm Overload!

I don’t talk about music here as much as I’d like, but it’s probably in the top 5 in terms of “most important things in my life”, just behind my wife and cats and art, and just ahead of comic books and the Baltimore Orioles. 2010 in particular was a great year for music, with some of my favorite artists putting out stuff I knew I’d like, and a bunch of new artists that I just fell in love with, including Best Coast, aka Bethany Cosentino. Solid from tip to tail with fuzzed-out lo-fi sunny SoCal guitar-pop, her debut also featured her adorable cat Snacks on the cover. She’s even gone so far as to employ the talents of several esteemed kitty actors for her latest single off the album (and my favorites song on it) ‘Crazy For You’. She’s even Pitchfork-approved (quick, enjoy this before they flip the switch to “backlash mode”!)

Dedication.

I apologize for the crappy quality of this pic (and post; I’m severely hung over). What you see before you is supreme dedication.

While I was out with my wife and friends last night, a guy came over to our table and literally asked for the shirt off my back. Apparently his lady-friend (pictured above) loves penguins, and liked my Penguins In Love design so much that she had him ask me for it. Typically I wouldn’t have taken off my shirt in a bar, but they actually had a free crappy over-sized Bud Light tee of some kind to give me in exchange, so I wouldn’t be left shirtless. Since I’m all about going the extra mile for you guys, I gave this girl the shirt off my back. And since I rarely go out without one of my own tees on my body, you guys also stand a very good chance of coming away with a very sweaty cool free t-shirt of your own if you happen upon me. (Chances are especially good if I’ve been drinking.) Just keep an eye out for me; I’ll be the guy in the Ex-Boyfriend shirt complaining about the state of the Baltimore Orioles baseball club.

P.S. I’m too hungover today to talk about booze with any enthusiasm, so instead I’ll just point you to Fork Party’s list of 11 Terrible Hangover Cures. Here’s hoping your Thirsty Thursday is less headachey than mine.
