Meet The Fans Wednesday: Say Hello to Brittney, Everybody!

Filed under: Behind the Scenes,Ex-Boyfriend Nation — Tags: , , , , , — ex-boyfriend @ 4:26 pm

Brittney was kind enough to send in a pic of herself sporting my Seattle Skyline hoodie and answer some interview questions:

Favorite websites to visit:
Tumblr, Facebook, and Flickr.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A veterinarian or a teacher.

OK, after reality set in, what ended up being your first job?
My first job was at Safeway.

Beer, wine, or liquor?
Liquor, and wine on occasions.

If you could have a dinner party for any famous people, who would you invite?
Big Chocolate (Cameron Argon), Sonny Moore, and Lady Ga Ga.

Favorite place to visit?
Washington! (Ed. note: we are assuming she means the state, not the district, given the totally rad hoodie seen above.)

Five current favorite songs, albums, or musical artists:
Parkway Drive, Foster the People, Matt & Kim, Big Chocolate, and Skrillex. (Ed. note: I am old, and only recognize Matt & Kim from this list. Would you care for a butterscotch, warm and lint-covered from storage in my cardigan pocket?)

Favorite visual artist(s)?
Francesco Carrozzini (photographer).

Do you have any pets?
Yes, 2 cats and a chameleon.

How would you spend your lottery winnings?
I’d use it to move into a small apartment back in Washington.

Most regrettable fashion decision?
Jeans with sharpie drawings all over them -_-

If you could have any super power what would it be?
Teleportation!

What new designs would you like to see next from Ex-Boyfriend?
Perhaps something involving a silhouette of a dead tree, I think its a really pretty organic shape.

***

Wanna be quasi-famous like Brittney? Just send me a pic of yourself rocking your fave Ex-Boyfriend gear and I’ll send a list of questions for you to answer!

Mystery Monday: I Feel Like a Hydreigon Made a Meal Out of Me

So this weekend was Otakon, Baltimore’s annual anime convention. Though this was my first foray into the actual convention center, Otakon weekend (along with Baltimore Comic-Con weekend) has long been a favorite event of ours, purely for the people-watching. This year I got to experience it first-hand as a vendor in the Dealer Room, and it. Was. Awesome.

We got a primo position, directly across from the restrooms (seriously. Guaranteed foot-traffic!) and had a pretty sweet booth set-up, if I do say so myself. For the sake of clarity, I snapped this before the attendees were allowed in for an unobstructed view; with 30,000 people strolling around in costumes that in many cases doubled their actual size, I figured I should take a pic before it got blocked out by a giant dragon:

Yeah, that’s Spyro. And there’s more where that came from!

Everyone’s favorite Pokemon trainer, Ash Ketchum, also put in an appearance!

Not sure what was going on here conceptually, but that hair is awesome! And those beads—like a Japanese Mardi Gras reveler from the future!

An assortment of costumed attendees.

Lots of cute doll costumes like this cupcake-themed one…

…as well as more traditional, less food-centric ones.

We also spied this creepy quasi-Gentleman from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The whole Joker fam, including Joker’s Daughter, Harley Quinn, and the clown prince of crime himself!

And nothing Japanese-inspired would be complete without an appearance from the Mario Bros (or Sisters!), Mario & Luigi.

There were also some more generic characters, like this spacey schoolgirl.

And this attendee, who seemed to have a pretty original look going on, though the hat, bowtie & jacket definitely remind me of Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen.

There were also a TON of steampunk aficionados in attendance throughout the weekend…

And of course, you had your staples, which ran the spectrum from your traditional Darth Vader (shown here attempting to choke me out from afar via The Force)…

…to more creative renderings of classic characters, like Leia in a balloon bikini.

By far one of my faves was just this cute little pink bear, giving me either the double-bird, or two thumbs up (I hope the latter.)

Even better, I got some new super-fans! I saw this one sporting her new Fuzz tee the day after she bought it, and (shocker of shockers) experienced seeing someone I don’t know walking around with my stuff on for the very first time. I imagine it’s a lot like hearing your song on the radio for the first time. The Beatles>Jesus, Me=The Beatles…am I a god? Probably only when facing Gozer the Gozarian on the roof of an apartment building. Baby steps!

All in all, it was a great experience, and I can’t wait to do it again next summer. To fans new and old that came out and said hi, you guys are awesome! And especially thanks to Adrienne, Tony, Lauren, David, & Andrea for helping me man the booth and pimping my wares throughout the weekend—you’re all the second-best friends a guy could ask for (the wife wins that one every time!)

Meet The Guest Artist Thursday: Wait, What?!

Hey guys, sorry for interrupting my usual boozy Thirsty Thursday post, but we just added two awesome new designs from new guest artist Jamie Fales that I couldn’t wait to introduce!

Jamie operates out of NYC as Noosed Kitty, and her art mixes a love of Japanese pop art signifiers with western design trends to create a unique illustration style that’s very cool. Check out her designs Post-Apocalyptic Heartache and Injured Owl, and also her other art in her Etsy store.

1.Where are you from (both originally and currently)?
Long Island, NY

2. Has that at all shaped you as an artist, or otherwise affected your creative processes?
Not really.

3. Can you let us know about some other visual artists that you admire and draw inspiration from?
Some artists I admire are Paul Barnes, Jessica Joslin, and Jonathan Weiner, but the list is endless.  I’m inspired by anything from mundane daily activities to a crazy dream I had.  Japanese art was an early influence on my work.

4. How about non-visual artists (musicians, friends, family, public figures, filmmakers, writers, etc)?
I’m sure there are but I can’t think of any as I’m typing up answers to these questions.

5. Did you receive any formal art training, whether it be in college, or elective classes in high school, middle school and so on?
Yes, I graduated college with a BFA.

6. What’s your creative process like? Do you work in silence, or with music/TV/some other background noise on? Do you have a specific space set aside for working on art? What are your preferred mediums?

I tend to do all my work on the floor with the tv on in the background.  I usually work in watercolor and pencil but I’ve recently started using oil paints which I’m enjoying thus far.

7. Do you have any pop cultural guilty pleasures you’d like to admit to?
Not really.

8. What are some of your favorite web haunts? Any blogs or websites you’d like to turn more people on to?
I probably spend more time on flickr than any other website.  Other sites I like: Etsy, Vinyl Pulse, All Recipes, Mental Floss, Crime Library… you know, the usual.

9. Do you have any pets?
One cat named George, or as I like to call him – Captain Awesome.

10. Beer, wine, or liquor? Which kind (ales, porters, pilsners, reds, whites, rums, vodkas)?
None of the above.

11. If you had access to Doc Brown’s Delorean in Back to the Future, when in time would you go?
I’m pretty happy right here.  Perhaps I’d travel back a few years to when I had dinner at the Good ‘n Plenty restaurant.  That was one of my favorite meals and I wouldn’t mind eating it again.  Sorry if this interview is somewhat lackluster. (Ed. Note: It’s cool, we’ll just assume you’re Batwoman and trying to throw us off the scent of your crime-fighting alter-ego.)

12. Cake, pie or cookies (ice cream and candy are also acceptable, but be specific)?
All of the above.  Cake – 30th Anniversary Cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory.  Pie – apple crumb.  Cookies – Girl Scout Tagalongs.  Ice cream – homemade cheesecake ice cream (that’s right, I make my own ice cream).  Candy – Swedish Fish and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.  I like me some yummy food.

Alright class, that’s about it. Say hi to Jamie, and be sure to check out the rest of the guest artist series! We’ll be back on our regular blogging schedule next week!

Meet The Guest Artist Monday: Heather Matter of White Octopus Illustration

Regular readers will know that for the last three weeks I’ve had the immense pleasure of introducing designs by some truly great artists for my guest artist series. The series continues this week with Houston-area illustrator Heather Matter. You can learn more about Heather’s work at her blog, as well as check out other pieces at her Etsy shop.

1. Where are you from (both originally and currently)?
I grew up in a small suburban neighborhood outside of Houston, moved to Minnesota with my husband after graduating high school, and then we moved back to my hometown a few years ago.

2. Has that at all shaped you as an artist, or otherwise affected your creative processes?
Growing up near the coast has probably influenced my interest in the ocean and all of the mysteries that it has to offer. But where I’m from is mostly urban sprawl with little scenery, and I’m often dreaming of beautiful, dark forests, majestic snow-capped mountains and even arctic tundras. And anything that is far removed from reality. I think my surroundings have forced me to draw from the well of my imagination in order to escape the uninspiring landscape of motels, shopping malls, office buildings, and the unbearable heat.

3. Can you let us know about some other visual artists that you admire and draw inspiration from?
Camilla d’Errico and Camille Rose Garcia. Japanese art, both past and current, has been a big influence, including the works of ukiyo-e painter Katsushika Hokusai. I have also been really inspired by Ernst Haeckel’s Art Forms From Nature; there is so much detail and accuracy in his work, it is stunning. And although there aren’t any specific photographers, I love abstract and macro photography, especially black and white.

4. How about non-visual artists (musicians, friends, family, public figures, filmmakers, writers, etc)?

Music, movies, and books are a huge source of inspiration for me apart from nature. Muse, Radiohead, and The Killers are what are playing right now, and I also listen to plenty of classical music as well. Sci-fi, fantasy, and horror movies are my favorite (even if they are terrible) and if you give me a good book to read you probably wont see me for days. If I’m not creating artwork, I am usually reading first, then doing what I should be doing second.

5. Did you receive any formal art training, whether it be in college, or elective classes in high school, middle school and so on?
I have been drawing since I was little, and I took art all through high school, but since then my formal training has included one photography class, one drawing class, and a brief oil painting class. So I am basically a self-taught artist. The idea of paying off student loans for the rest of my life never appealed to me. And I tend to change my mind frequently (no, seriously!), so trying to focus on one degree just seemed impossible. But I have always believed that you shouldn’t give up on educating yourself just because you can’t afford schooling or can’t make up your mind.

6. What’s your creative process like? Do you work in silence, or with music/TV/some other background noise on? Do you have a specific space set aside for working on art? What are your preferred mediums?
Ha! If I had a process I would be doing good. Every day is something new. Usually I start early in the morning with a cup of tea, put on some music that fits my mood and try to focus on one or two projects to get me through the day. Some days it’s sketching out ideas and creating line work, other days it’s Photoshop. But most of my ideas form in the short period of time between when my head hits the pillow and I fall asleep. I’ve done a lot of my work using pen and ink, but right now I’m experimenting with the fluidity of watercolors. And I am lucky enough to have a room for my own studio, but I always end up in the kitchen/living area. From there I can look out into my backyard, and the birds and the squirrels always crack me up.

7. Do you have any pop cultural guilty pleasures you’d like to admit to?
Eh, not really. I don’t get into most of the obsessions that a lot of people do. Anything Sci-fi or fantasy is cool, and I do have to admit that I would love to go to ComicCon, but I’m not over the top obsessed. Over-marketing and commercialism turn me off to a lot of things.

8. What are some of your favorite web haunts? Any blogs or websites you’d like to turn more people on to?
I love National Geographic for the amazing photography and inspiration, and I’m frequently on Wikipedia looking up anything from the history of tarot cards to Ancient Egypt. I’m all over the place. I like everything. I’m also on Etsy and Flickr way too much.

9. Do you have any pets?
I have one amazingly crazy cat. She’s part-horse, part-monkey, and part-squirrel, with a little bit of cat thrown in. She is extremely talkative, likes to gallop around the house, and jumps to the tops of our doors. She’s a handful all on her own. I love all animals, especially the ones that are fuzzy and goofy!

10. Beer, wine, or liquor? Which kind (ales, porters, pilsners, reds, whites, rums, vodkas)?
If I could get drunk off of root beer I’d be an alcoholic. But I don’t drink.

11. If you had access to Doc Brown’s Delorean in Back to the Future, when in time would you go?
I probably wouldn’t be able to make up my mind! Definitely any time before I was born. I don’t feel the need to relive any moments of my past, but maybe I would want to see what life was like here before the states were colonized. And I think visiting the 1920’s would be fascinating. There was so much going on in that era.

12. Cake, pie or cookies (ice cream and candy are also acceptable, but be specific)?
If cheesecake were a drug, I would have overdosed a long time ago. It’s killer. :)

Meet The Guest Artist Monday: Andrea Zuill

First there was Melinda Farrar. Then Ginger Nielsen. Last week, it was Fee Harding. This weeks, we keep the guest artist ball rolling with Andrea Zuill, whose playful and cartoonish illustrations make me squeal with delight! Check out her squirrel and magical unicorn designs:

Now say hi to Andrea!

1. Where are you from (both originally and currently)?
Born and raised in California. I started life in Bakersfield and currently live near San Diego.

2. Has that at all shaped you as an artist, or otherwise affected your creative processes?
Have you ever been to Bakersfield? Well you need a pretty good fantasy life to survive. (Ed. note: No, I haven’t, but my brother is currently courting someone who lives there, and he said basically the same thing. To be fair, at least it gave us Merle Haggard and Buck Owens.)

3. Can you let us know about some other visual artists that you admire and draw inspiration from?
I like the work of Mark Ryden and Camille Rose Garcia. Lucien Freud keeps my head straight. Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes fame is my god. (Ed. note: It’s true; a lot of Andrea’s work has a very Watterson-esque flair to it.)

4. How about non-visual artists (musicians, friends, family, public figures, filmmakers, writers, etc)?
Music is very important to me. I can’t hardly create without music playing. I listen to Los Lobos, REM, Cake, Rogue Wave, and Beck.
I enjoy the work of the Coen Brothers. Their movies are near-perfect to me.

5. Did you receive any formal art training, whether it be in college, or elective classes in high school, middle school and so on?
I’ve taken one life drawing class, part of an oil painting class, and one beginning drawing class. I’m not a very good student.  I get bored easily which sometimes causes me to argue with the teachers. With one exception (my teacher Lori), art teachers can be real jerks. (Ed. note: this is true.)

6. What’s your creative process like? Do you work in silence, or with music/TV/some other background noise on? Do you have a specific space set aside for working on art? What are your preferred mediums?
I try not to think too much. Thinking is my enemy. I get  a flash of an image in my head then I try to get to a sketch pad asap. When I am creatively empty I search the net for images that will inspire me. I need noise to create. I need music when I paint or work on the computer. When I do my fiber art I watch TV.

7. Do you have any pop cultural guilty pleasures you’d like to admit to?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I love that show.  Documentaries on Bigfoot.  I’ve been keeping up with Bigfoot since I was little.  I have a big-time crush on Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs. Did you know that he sometimes takes his shirt off on his show? It’s awesome.

8. What are some of your favorite web haunts? Any blogs or websites you’d like to turn more people on to?
I like simple pleasures in regards to web haunts. Daily I look at Cute Overload, Cake Wrecks, Engrish, Awkward Family Photos and Funny or Die to see Drunk History. When I get sad I go on YouTube and watch baby goats. You can’t stay sad after watching baby goats.

9. Do you have any pets?
I have an excellent dog named Homer,  2 cockatiels and 1 very evil parakeet.

10. Beer, wine, or liquor? Which kind (ales, porters, pilsners, reds, whites, rums, vodkas)?
I don’t drink liquor. My family doesn’t do very well with liquor. But, I do like a mean ginger ale. You know, the kind that makes your nose bleed from the fumes. (Ed. note: any beverage that causes bleeding from an orifice is not for me.)

11. If you had access to Doc Brown’s Delorean in Back to the Future, when in time would you go?
I am a history nerd. It might be boring, but I would like to see colonial America. Did you know that they used to crap out their windows if they where feeling lazy, or if they where feeling able they poured buckets of their waste in the street outside their houses? The good old days!

12. Cake, pie or cookies (ice cream and candy are also acceptable, but be specific)?
Cake, cake, and cake. I love cake. But it must have very good frosting or no frosting. Chocolate is my favorite, but I also like red velvet, carrot, Black Forest and almost any other type you can think of. I love to eat cake for breakfast. I even like it a little stale. I don’t eat a lot of cake because once I start I can’t stop.  I have actually done a series of cake paintings. It’s food porn for me.

Don’t forget to check out Andrea’s other pieces at her Etsy shop!

Meet The Guest Artist Monday: Ginger Nielsen

As I’ve hinted at before, I’ve been wanting to expand the guest artist series that I began with my friend Melinda Farrar’s Nun Show design back in August. Well, I finally got around to doing something about it last week, and I’m very pleased to present a new design courtesy of artist Ginger Nielsen called Timberhooves:

Timberhooves

This is the first of what (I hope) will be a regular fixture on Mondays for the foreseeable future: new art, from an awesome artist, available on our awesome garments, and a little interview explaining how they and their art achieved such a high level of awesomeness. Not-overly-long-story-short, it’s gonna be kinda awesome. So class, please say hello to Ginger:

1. Where are you from (both originally and currently)?
I’m from a small and somewhat disappointing town called Racine, located in southeast Wisconsin. However, I’m grateful that I’m within walking distance from Lake Michigan, and for the fortress of trees and greenery surrounding my crumbling home. (Ed. note: Racine does have some cred—it was the hometown of the Racine Bees, the professional women’s baseball team featured in the movie A League of Their Own. Their star pitcher? Lori Petty, who also starred in Tank Girl.)

2. Has that at all shaped you as an artist, or otherwise affected your creative processes?
I tend to live inside my own head and thrive on a vivid imagination, so perhaps it has; I think when you’re discontent with your surroundings, you’re inclined to create more exciting, or magical places in your mind. Then I just try and materialize them through literature or art.

3. Can you let us know about some other visual artists that you admire and draw inspiration from?
Oh, where to begin! I absolutely love old-time artists and illustrators like Arthur Rackham, Ivan Bilibin, and Leonard Leslie Brooke. As far as current artists, I greatly admire the works of Camille Rose Garcia, Audrey Kawasaki, Mark Ryden, Chiara Bautista, and Joshua Hoffine, to name a few. Ed. note: Ginger’s correct, these are all really amazing artists. Check ‘em out on Google once you finish giving her your undivided attention!)

4. How about non-visual artists (musicians, friends, family, public figures, filmmakers, writers, etc)?
I do a bit of writing, and I find that work by Bentley Little, Margaret Atwood, and Brian Keene motivate me to write. It’s an eclectic mix, and when reading (or watching films) I’m apt to stray towards the creepy and bizarre; horror and dark fantasy are staples of mine. I love the notion of other realms existing right under our noses; where animals speak and forests are always enchanted; places where imps and sprites run about, and lonely wraiths wander, and vengeful spirits are found.

5. Did you receive any formal art training, whether it be in college, or elective classes in high school, middle school and so on?
I did not, though over the years I’ve devoured many books detailing drawing techniques. So it’s been a kind of a look and learn type of approach for me.

6. What’s your creative process like? Do you work in silence, or with music/TV/some other background noise on? Do you have a specific space set aside for working on art? What are your preferred mediums?
I greatly dislike the sound of the television on, and 99% of the time, it’s turned off. I do enjoy hearing music whilst creating wearables for my shop as well as creating art. My musical preferences are all over place, from  Johannes Brahms, The Scarring Party, (a local band who sounds as if they’ve materialized from the 1920’s) Leger Des Heils (European folk; I love it) to movie soundtracks- I’m really liking The Others and Sleepy Hollow right now.

I have a little 1950’s desk obtained from an estate sale, and I swear it’s enchanted. Every time I sit at it I get all these ideas, and even when I’m feeling unmotivated, after sitting there a moment I find myself at something.

I use plain old Sanford drawing pencils and Pigma Micron drawing pens, and I just like my drawing paper to have nice weight and tooth.

7. Do you have any pop cultural guilty pleasures you’d like to admit to?
I’m afraid I’m pretty out of touch with current mainstream likes, as far as musical artists and media goes. If I have the radio on, it’s set to oldies stations, and unless it’s a Twilight Zone episode, I don’t follow TV programs. I enjoy the Harry Potter films, does that count? (Ed. note: Yes, it does.)

8. What are some of your favorite web haunts? Any blogs or websites you’d like to turn more people on to?
Of course Etsy, where I sell and absolutely cannot stop buying from; I love Etsy sellers’ swanbones, HidenSeek, and woolandwater, as well as their blogs. I also need to stop visiting Facebook, and I admit I have a problem.

9. Do you have any pets?
Always. I have three delightfully lazy pit bulls, two arrogant piranhas, and one albino rat. It’s also not unusual for me to bring home wounded raccoons, birds, skunks, and opossums. It’s also not unusual for me to block traffic in order to save these guys in the process.

10. Beer, wine, or liquor? Which kind (ales, porters, pilsners, reds, whites, rums, vodkas)?
I’m not one for alcohol, and it’s not often that I drink. The times I do however, I enjoy a pint of cider, Strongbow or Magers, please.

11. If you had access to Doc Brown’s Delorean in Back to the Future, when in time would you go?
Oh, what a wonderful question! I have a slight obsession with the 1930’s; the onset of World War Two, the Dust Bowl disaster, the ending of the Great Depression all occurring; all grim but fascinating to me. Though I would love to walk the streets of White Chapel London during the height of Jack the Ripper’s murderous hold, where oil lamps cast dim light and skirts bustled along dark cobbled alley ways.

12. Cake, pie or cookies (ice cream and candy are also acceptable, but be specific)?
I have an uncontrollable sweet tooth. Ask anyone who knows me. If given the chance I will always chose dessert over a meal, much like a five year old. My cupboards are packed with cookies, candy, and cereal, as well as muffin and cake mixes. Obviously I’m not capable of choosing between the greater of my sugary loves.***

As you may have noticed from the numerous links above, Ginger sells prints and other wearables featuring her art on Etsy in her Lamb Candy shop. Be sure to drop by and have a poke around!

Meet the Fans Monday: Tony & Adrienne

Today stylish Baltimore couple Adrienne and Tony are answering a few questions for us. Above you can see Adrienne in her Red Riding Hood tee. Tony is wearing Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Tell us about your pop culture guilty pleasures?
TONY: DIY Network design shows. My favorite is probably “Yard Crashers.”

ADJ: I’m a big fan of anything that animated that includes Brendon Small. I also watch a few shows on Bravo – “Bethany Getting Married?” and the “Rachel Zoe Project.” Tony insists I’m better than that, but he’s wrong.

What websites do you frequent around the internets?
TONY: Adult Swim – I like to catch up on shows I’ve missed.

ADJ: I’m often on Facebook or managing my own blog (Tattoos & Champagne). Then there’s NPR for news, NCBI ROFL for nerd news, and Pink is the New Blog for junk news. I’m also a huge rugby fan, so I usually visit the All Black’s web site or rugby news sites from New Zealand.

Five current favorite songs, albums, or musical artists:
TONY: Depeche Mode, New Order, Radiohead, Muse, and 90′s super group the Wu Tang Clan.

ADJ: Fav artists? The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Adele, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Jason Mraz.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?
TONY: A fireman.

ADJ: Really?

TONY: Yeah. Astronaut would have been cool, too.

ADJ: I wanted to be a doctor, which would have been a epic failure given how reliably I faint at the site of blood.

TONY: {laughs}

If you could have any super power what would it be?
ADJ: Can I be Captain Obvious? I’d have the power to make people use their common sense.

TONY: I would totally fly.

ADJ: How come?

TONY: Why? Cause I want to fly!

Most regrettable fashion decision you ever made?
ADJ: When you had long hair.

TONY: That’s a good one.

ADJ: And there was that time when I decided to wear my hair in braids.

TONY: You don’t say! Braids, huh?

Hey, it’s November already! Tell us about your most and least favorite Thanksgiving eats?
TONY: My least favorite is cranberry sauce?

ADJ: What??

TONY: Did I stutter? I’m very open about this.

ADJ: Fascist. And your favorite?

TONY: It’d have to be the stuffing. Although the yams and the potatoes…yum….

ADJ: I’m all about my family’s corn pudding. And the menagerie of pie. Last year my mom tried out some traditional Asian foods, which was fine up until I tried the fish cake. Not a mistake I’ll be repeating this year.

What type of tees do you hope we design next?
TONY: Aliens that are animals. Like giant cat aliens. Or Admiral Ackbar.

ADJ: Maybe some graffiti tees. Or robots. You can’t go wrong with robots!

If you want to show off your Ex-Boyfriend look on our blog and answer some interview questions I’d be much obliged. Just send in your photo. Be sure to send me your mailing address so I can send you a little thank you.

Meet the Fans Monday: Introducing Rachel

Today Rachel from Worcestershire, UK sent us a photo wearing her new Fuzz Aldrin t-shirt and she answered a few questions for us.

What music have you been rocking out to lately?

I’ve been listening to The National’s new-ish album ‘High Violet’. Got into them about a year ago and they’re really really good.

What are your favorite websites to visit?

I read a lot of web comics, like Questionable Content and Cat & Girl.

Beer, wine or liquor?

Liquor – Disaronno is the best, especially with ameretti biscuits.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?

At first an artist, then an explorer. Something exciting really.

What are you favorite places around the world?

There’s a little island called Caldey that’s just off the Welsh coast that I visited on holiday. It’s just monks who live there, but they let visitors look around the island during the summer months. It’s really tranquil, plus they make confectionery. I really want to visit the US, especially Seattle.

It being Halloween month and all, got any phobias?

Sharks. I don’t like stuff higher up the food chain than me. Also spiders are a bit freaky.

How did you first discover Ex-Boyfriend?

I can’t really remember. :(

What kind of tees do you hope we design next?

A design with a duckling on it. :) or any other slightly jokey animals ones would be great.

Meeting you guys is definitely one of my favorite parts of running Ex-Boyfriend! If you want to show off your Ex-Boyfriend look on our blog and answer some interview questions I’d be much obliged. Just send in your photo. Be sure to send me your mailing address so I can send you a little thank you.

Meet the Fans Monday: Say Hello to Kimberly

If you visit here regularly, you know how much I love meeting you guys, even if it’s just virtually. Kim in Portland, OR was kind enough to send us a photo rocking her new Fuzz Aldrin Hoodie and answer a few questions.

Tell us about your pop cultural guilty pleasures:

Star Trek! And all things nerdy sci-fi.

My current television one is Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the series). I’d never ever watched it before, but it’s one of my mother’s favorites, and so I promised her I would give it a try. It’s really a lot better than I’d ever given it credit for! I’m also a gigantic LOST fan. Any way that this show connects with pop culture (blogs; t-shirts; parodies), I’m on it!

As far as pop music goes, I recently got turned on to OK Go; they’re so much fun. Also revisiting Michael Jackson and Madonna — I never was into them when I was a teenager, but now I guess it satisfies my pop-nostalgia!

Favorite websites to visit:
Ex-Boyfriend; huffingtonpost; TelevisionWithoutPity (TWOP); Savage Chickens; Natalie Dee; one friend’s site, which is called CraftyPants Carol’s Fancy Crafty World; any site having to do with LOST and LOST-theories.

First job?
Outside the illegal child labor I performed as a young babysitter, my first ‘real’ job where I actually paid taxes was waitressing at age 16 for the Greenery Family Restaurant in Michigan, where I went to high school.

Beer, wine, or liquor?
Oh, wow, I can take all three most any time, but typically I prefer beer.
Beer favorite: Alaskan Smoked Porter; or any good porter or stout; IPAs in summertime; pumpkin ales in the fall.
Wine: Any good red
Liquor: Vodka (recently have been trying blueberry — YUM)

If you could have a dinner party for any famous people, who would you invite?
I love space (the final frontier), astronomers, and physicists. So this means I want to invite Carl Sagan; Brian Greene; and Stephen Hawking. Thus my love, of course, for FUZZ ALDRIN!

Favorite place to visit?
Canada; also Ireland. Dream destinations that I’ve yet to visit are: Iceland; New Zealand; and VietNam. South America would be super, too.

Five current favorite songs, albums, or musical artists:
This is a very difficult question! It depends on my mood or the day of the week. Today, I’ll go with bands:
The Velvet Underground
The Pixies
Radiohead
Miles Davis
Stile Antico (medieval choral stuff)

Favorite visual artist(s)?
Vincent VanGogh, forever and ever. Also Pablo Picasso. I adore Surrealists as a rule, but love Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte.

How would you spend your lottery winnings?
Pursuing a graduate degree in theoretical linguistics; traveling the world (specifically New Zealand; Scandinavia; and parts of Asia).

Most regrettable fashion decision?
Ugh — my asymmetrical hair-cut, senior year of high school in 1985. It’s embarrassing now, but ’twas all the rage, once upon a time. :)

What new designs would you like to see from Ex-Boyfriend?
I love what you’ve done already! But I’m a sucker for cats and nature in general. Maybe a nice design where the animals turn tables on humans? Where the critters totally take over, reclaim the Earth? Good times.

If you want to show off your Ex-Boyfriend look on our blog and answer some interview questions I’d be much obliged. Just send in your photo. Be sure to send me your mailing address so I can send you a little thank you.
