The Robot Menace?
As much as I love robots, this article makes a few good points about the threat of a robot uprising. Warrior bots are especially terrifying. Lover robots are much more adorable.

May 18, 2009Dane Cook is Trying to Kill MeAfter a busy day of illustration, I decided some exercise was in order. I got to the gym just in time to catch Comedy Central’s Dane Cook special, “An Isolated Incident.” You should have seen me, because Dane Cook made me laugh so hard I almost fell off the treadmill — repeatedly. Luckily I managed not to injure myself, perhaps I should stick to my ipod next time. Any way, about the new drawings. I had a heck of a time trying to decide how to represent this new white rabbit. Fill him in, leave him as a line drawing. I don’t know. I did versions of him both ways: I also drew this polar bear and this cute little girl. May 14, 2009Zombie Fire AntsThis is completely creepy. Apparently Texas is considering resolving their fire ant problem by unleashing flies that eat fire ant brains. No, that’s not the creepy part. The creepy part is that the fire ants continue walking around doing fire ant things after their brains have been eaten! May 13, 2009Please Welcome Hobbes
![]() May 12, 2009Name That KittyWe’re trying to come up with a cute name for our new kitty. We took suggestions from friends online and in real life and here are some of our favorites. Which should we pick?
May 11, 2009Additions to My BroodI’m a proud new papa, again — this time to two large orange tabbies. Lest you worry I’m truly becoming a crazy cat person, let me assure you this is it for us. No more pets. Mostly because my girls says so, but either way, the house is now full. How did these strapping furry lads come into our lives? Let me tell you. For those of you who’ve been reading this blog a while, you may recall that we lost our very beloved little Maine Coon in December. After losing her the house seemed so quiet and empty. That is when I first floated the idea of getting two new cats eventually. That way we’d never be a one pet household again. My girl was too devastated to entertain the idea of a new critter, so for several months it was just us and Oliver. Meanwhile, neighbors a block away moved out and left their two big orange tabbies on the street to fend for themselves. The abandoned cats were friendly and always greeted us when we saw them outside. One particularly chilly damp night I saw one of the orange tabbies outside. He was freezing cold and seemed delighted to have me rubbing the top of his furry head. He followed me home and I let him camp out in our bathroom. We decided to keep him and we’ve named him Bigby. Of course we couldn’t separate Bigby and his brother, so we spent the next few weeks checking the block for him. Last night he finally showed himself. He’s a little shyer than his brother, but couldn’t resist the lure of a some delicious cat treats, and was eventually coaxed back to the house with us. He’s now adjusting to his new surroundings. Bigby has become acquainted with Oliver, and while I can’t say they’re BFFs yet, they seem to be getting used to each other. Once Oliver adjusts to not being an only kitty I think he’ll grow to enjoy the company. So here are the two new boys, the guy on the right needs a name. Any suggestions? May 8, 2009Artists I Like: Erika Iris SimmonsI started posting about artists I like because, well, to be perfectly honest, there are a lot of artists I don’t like. The ones who blow me away are hard to find and when I do discover them I want everyone to know about them and like them as much as I do. Because of the nature of my work, I spend a lot of time around art and artists, and most of the time, I feel like I’m living in this scene from Art School Confidential: I digress though, work like that of Simmons makes me feel excited about art again and restores my faith in the ability of artists out there to do something creative and interesting. You can read more about Simmons on her website, or just admire her portfolio on her Flickr account. Bunny and Piglet are Cutest BFFsI love a good story about cute beasts. Here are two unlikely BFFs living on a farm in Devon UK. May 7, 2009May 4, 2009Salt’s Gone GangstaFirst of all I am going to start this post off by telling you that I slept way too late yesterday and as a result couldn’t fall asleep until late last night (and by this I mean later than usual). The good news is that the Golden Girls was on the Hallmark channel. This inspired a bout of bad television nostalgia. My girl and I reminded each other about the various antics of Uncle Jesse and the wacky Tanner clan and debated about how exactly the Golden Girls ended up living together any way. This is what nerd I am, I had to Google that this morning. The girls all lived in Blanche’s house. Dorothy was divorced, Rose and Blanche were widows. Aren’t you glad I looked into this and shared? I digress, I really just wanted to post about the new drawings I did yesterday. For those of you who like pretty things: For those of you who like fun with words, check out a salt with a deadly weapon. He’s not just content to give you high blood pressure. This table top thug is armed and dangerous. Yes, you would like some more salt on your fries! Lastly, it’s not enough that I have Uncle Jesse and the Rippers cover of Forever stuck in my head today. You need to have it stuck in your head too. Notice the creepy soft focus and shirtlessness combined with the toddlers, what were they thinking? It’s so sexy yet so family values? Whatever, enjoy. P.S. 15% off all orders until 5/20 Enter the code MAYDAY at check out P.P.S I know this whole Rickrolling thing is the new hotness, or not really that new, but it’s a thing to do. I really think Uncle Jesse rolling would be way more embarrassing. It doesn’t roll off the tongue as nicely but you do not want your officemates catching you gawking at the shirtless soft focus Uncle Jesse, do you? |
